Primary School Art Competition19/09/14
Edwards of Conwy get the creative juices of 13 primary schools flowing with a food based art competition.
“In November 2012, we started supplying Conwy Schools with pork sausages. We were asked to develop a sausage that was lower in salt & fat than their existing sausage, with no MSG, Preservatives or any other unnecessary additives. We make these sausages using prime Red Tractor British pork shoulder from Farm Assured British Pigs. They are produced to the same high standard as our Traditional recipe sausages by our dedicated team of butchers. The sausages proved to be very popular and in January 2013, other school districts started ordering too” explains Managing Director Ieuan Edwards.
Edwards of Conwy are currently supplying a total of 250 schools across North Wales and the North West of England, including 59 Schools from Conwy County.
“We are currently supplying schools an ever growing figure of around 500,000 sausages a year and 10,000 per week; 4,000 of which are in the Conwy area alone!”
The art competition asked children to draw their favourite meal, explain what it contains, and how much they think it costs. As provenance is extremely important to Edwards of Conwy the competition was started to help promote discussion on where food comes from, combining creativity, numeracy and literacy skills in one activity.
The top 3 entries will get the chance to have their artwork published on the Edwards of Conwy website for family and friends to see. There have been a staggering number of entries full of imaginative responses.http://www.edwardsofconwy.co.uk) with prizes being awarded in the form of Art Supplies for the School and gift vouchers for the child.
Readers are invited to view a selection of the masterpieces being displayed at Edwards of Conwy’s newly refurbished shop on Conwy High-street, over the next 5 weeks.
